Written and directed by debutant Renjith Shankar, 'Passenger', released in 2009, was first of a kind thriller in Malayalam movies of that time. The movie which explodes into life once a bold reporter Anuradha gets an exclusive news about a planned tragedy orchestrated by Home Minister Thomas Chacko, played by Jagathy Sreekumar. Anuradha's husband Nandan Menon, an activist and lawyer and an ordinary government servant Sathyanath meets in a passenger train and get acquainted in short time. Sathyanath happens to see Nandan being kidnapped, an attempt by Thomas Chacko to hunt down Anuradha. The movie then follows how Sathyanath helps Anuradha to publish the story and help Nandan out from clutches of criminals. The movie shows the difficulties faced by a journalist at the time of a professional crisis.
