Abbotsbury Beach - Chesil Bank and Fleet Lagoon - Visit Dorset

A shelving beach made up of pebbles and shingle, popular with both local anglers and families for mackerel fishing. Close to the beach is the village of Abbotsbury, where there are two additional attractions - Abbotsbury Swannery and the Sub Tropical Gardens. The village is approximately one mile from the beach. There are shops, cafes and pubs in the village. The area is also the site of the Chesil and Fleet Nature Reserve. There are stunning views across to Weymouth and Portland and to the west is the beautiful site of Golden Cap. Beach Type: A pebble and shingle beach.  Safety: Bathing can be dangerous. The beach shelves steeply & there is a strong under-tow. Take care on the shoreline because sudden large waves can engulf persons at the water's edge. Lifeguards: There are no lifeguards at Abbotsbury Beach. Toilets: Toilets are located in the car park.  Accessibility: Accessible toilet. A compacted car park with sloping boardwalk onto the beach. There is no matting on the beach.  Parking: Car park at the end of Buller's Way.  Dogs: Chesil Beach at Abbotsbury to the Tank Teeth Boundary, dogs are welcome all year. From the Tank Teeth Boundary at Abbotsbury to the Portland Boundary Stone, dogs are welcome on leads to the outer flank (seaward side) of the beach from 1 September to 30 April. There is no public access outside of these dates. At the Fleet Lagoon Nature Reserve, access is only via the South West Coast Path - there is no public access along the shorelines of the Fleet to protect wildlife.
