Fabiano Caruana defeated former co-leader Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in round 8 of the Candidates Tournament, once the event resumed a year after having been postponed due to the sanitary crisis. Caruana played a sharp novelty out of a Najdorf Sicilian and eventually got a slightly superior endgame, which he turned into a remarkable victory.
