CHESS: Kenya wins medals in online event
Kenya won two gold and two silver medals at the African Amateurs Chess Championships held online at the weekend.Dadson Rwamba, fresh from taking part in the world amateur chess championships in Muscat, won the under-1700 category after collecting 7.5 points. This category had the highest number of participants at ten and was therefore the most competitive.Rwamba said it was a new experience playing online and is delighted to have won his category.“It was my first time playing online and there were several challenges including network. It was a bit rushed as well since this was not classical chess but rather rapids,” he said.At second place was Mathew Luke Aziz from South Africa who collected 6.5 points while Gatson Mapangu was third also with 6.5 points. The under-1700 women category was dominated by Botswana who won the top two positions.Safari Classic: Champion Baldev Chager ready to take the bull by its horn##NAJAVA_MECA_7719158##Banda Natalie collected 8.5 points to win these categories while Maya Otimile had seven points to finish second.Sarah Mukhwana from Kenya earned a gold in women under -2300.
