The Basilisk is a Giant Snake and also magical species of snake. If you look at it straight in the eye, it will kill you. It is also said to be at least 60 feet long, and as with most snakes, it will shed its skin eventually. It also is the "dreaded monster" of the Chamber of Secrets at Hogwarts.
